Mind Readers

Good poker en ligne players are effective mind readers. As you play poker online, you start to learn how poker players think. You know your reasons for making the decisions that you do, and eventually you learn to project that onto other players. Some are easy to discern. If a table check around to the last player and he places a large bet, you can be pretty certain that he’s thinking something like “Well, everyone’s checked, and the pot’s pretty big. I think I can buy this one off and move on to the next hand.”

Others are more difficult. If a player checks at a flop like K-8-9 of spades, he may be thinking “I just need one more spade on the turn, don’t raise me so I can see if I get it”, or he could be thinking “Sweet, a spade flush on the flop, I’ve got to keep everyone in this hand and fatten up the pot a bit.”

Every poker player is different, so you’ll need to adjust your thought for each individual player’s personality. It’s not an exact science, but as you get more experience, you will have a pretty good idea of what motivation is behind the moves he or she makes, and you’ll be able to react appropriately.
